Tommies This Week: Janurary 17-23

Friday, January

Women’s Basketball vs MTA 6:00pm @ LB Gym *Francis Farrington Memorial Games*

The Tommies recently moved to #8 in the country and will face a solid MTA team that won the ACAA championship last season. The Mounties return ACAA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, Kiersten Mangold, and previously defeated the Tommies 54-51 in Sackville. This should be a tightly defended contest and could very well come down to the last shot.

Women’s Hockey @ UdeM 7:00pm

The Aigles Bleues have recently taken down the StFX X-Women and will look to continue the trend of taking down top teams. This game will feature the AUS’s top two scorers, Lauren Henman for STU (16 goals, 9 assists) and Katryne Villeneuve (13 goals, 12 assists). The Tommies have taken the previous two meetings 4-2 and 5-0.

Men’s Basketball vs MTA 8:00pm @ LB Gym *Francis Farrington Memorial Games*

The Mounties come into town 4th in the ACAA with a record of 6-4 and took the previous matchup between these two 88-77. The Tommies have been playing excellent basketball over their last six games, so expect this to be a closer game than the previous matchup.

Saturday, January 19th

Women’s Volleyball @ HC 2:00pm

The Hurricanes and Tommies have split their previous two matchups (3-0 STU and 3-2 HC). The Hurricanes sit 2nd in the ACAA with a record of 9-3. This is a game head coach Don McKay knows is going to be a tough matchup and could have great implications on the playoff picture.

Women’s Hockey @ SMU 4:30pm

The Tommies stayed put at #5 in the U Sport rankings this week and will faceoff against the AUS’s 3rd place team in the Huskies. The Tommies have won the previous two matchups 2-0 and 3-1, with both games being played at the Grant-Harvey Centre. SMU sits 9 points back of STU in the standings.

Women’s Basketball @ HC 5:00pm

The Tommies head back to the site of their first win of the 2018-19 season, a 64-60 win in Charlottetown. The Tommies also defeated the Hurricanes 84-53 in Fredericton. The Hurricanes have fallen off of late and find themselves tied for second last in the ACAA standings with a 3-7 record.

Men’s Basketball @ HC 7:00pm

The last time the Tommies visited the Hurricanes they were handed a 121-95 loss and then in the rematch in Fredericton the Tommies closed the gap to a 96-80 loss. Undefeated on the season and #2 in the country, the Hurricanes will look to continue their ACAA dominance.

With several athletes coming close to personal best times in their events of the last few competitions this will be an exciting event for the athletes. With AUS Championships closing in on February 23rd this will be a great opportunity to go up against quality competition.

Women’s Volleyball @ MTA 2:00pm

The Tommies lost 3-0 to the Mounties back on November 11th and will travel to Sackville once again, looking to improve upon that score. This could potentially be a first round matchup in the playoffs.
