Ken Gould Tournament: Day 1 Recap

The St. Thomas Tommies split their two games Friday night at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym. The Women's team lost to the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in a tight game, 69-64. STU trailed 41-28 after the first half, making a comeback in the second half that fell short. Vannesa Soffee (Fredericton, NB) dropped a game high 18 points, along with three steals and a 3-5 shooting performance from the 3-point line. Ava Prosser (Johnstown, ON) chipped in with 11 points. Alisha McNeil led the Mystics with 15 points while Katherine Khorovets and Emily Holt had 13 each.

The Men's team came away with a win in the last game of Friday's action, defeating the Mystics 95-88. After trailing after a quarter of play, 29-24, a strong second quarter paced them past MSVU. Tanner Hoyt (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB) led the game in scoring in his Tommies debut, dropping 22 on a 5-8 performance from downtown. Vincent Lyttleton (Markham, ON) contributed on both sides of the court, nearly posting a triple-double. His 19 points, 12 rebounds eight assists and five steals lifted the Tommies to a victory. Jaxon Smith of the Mystics led his team in scoring with 21.

Other games featured the Mount Allison University Mounties against the Holland College Hurricanes, one being the Women's teams and the other being the Men's.

In the Women's game, the Hurricanes took a 66-61 win with Sheleese Hoilett of the Hurricanes scoring 22. 

In the Men's game, the Mounties slipped away with a win in a high scoring affair, winning 116-108.  Emanuel Adugna of the Mounties had a 30 point performance while Noah McCarthy had 24. For the Hurricanes, Logan Rempel also dropped 30, while former Tommie  Almin Dervisevic had 19 and 7 assists.

The Tommies play again Saturday, with the Women's team playing the Mounties at 2:00, followed by the Men's team at 4:00, also playing the Mounties.
