Tommies Tame Rams at Ken Gould Invitational

(Fredericton, NB) The new look St Thomas Tommies handed the visiting Dalhousie AC Rams a 117-63 defeat in the final game of day one action at the Ken Gould Invitational.

With 6 new faces in the lineup for the Tommies it will be a new brand of basketball being played.

One of those new faces showed the fans exactly what to expect for this upcoming season. Almin Dervesivic (Ottawa, ON) got on the scoreboard early and often for the Tommies as he started out the game 5/5 on three-point attempts on his way to a 25-point debut in the Green and Gold. He was named Player of the Game for the Tommies. Veteran Travis Valanne (Miramichi, NB) helped out with 21 points while Geoffrey Lavoie (Ottawa, ON) provided great energy off the bench to chip in with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

"I really liked the intensity of this group of young men," said head coach Scott MacLeod following his team's first preseason game on home court. "What they are doing in practice is really starting to show in games. We are trying to get a high pace and intensity on both ends of the floor this year."

Robin Grouse led the Rams with 25 points and 10 rebounds before following out midway into the 3rd quarter. Sam Scott had 15 points and 5 rebounds to be named Player of the Game for the Rams.

Action resumes in the Ken Gould Invitational Saturday at 12:00pm.
