Tommies Use Strong 2nd Quarter to Push Seawolves

Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University men's basketball team secured their eleventh win of the season after defeating the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves this past Friday. The Tommies took home the win with a score of 100 - 68. 

 

Seawolves Hunter Gray was the first to put points on the board. The Seawolves held their lead over the Tommies for the majority of the first quarter, as the Tommies struggled to find their footing. 

 

While in the dying seconds of the first quarter Geoffrey Lavoie (Ottawa, ON), who had 18 points and four rebounds, managed to just push the Tommies ahead of the Seawolves 17-16. 

 

Throughout the second quarter the Tommies only continued to advance their lead. Thanks to some solid defensive plays they extended their lead to 49-33. 

 

The second half was still good news for the Tommies. The Seawolves tried to push back and take back their early lead, but to no avail. The third quarter ended with a score of 75 - 52 for the Tommies.Scoring for the Tommies in the second half was led by Carlo Theriault (Campbellton, NB) with 14 points, and two rebounds. 

 

With their win on Friday the Tommies record sits at 11- 5. The Tommies will be looking to keep up their two game winning streak as they face off against the Holland College Hurricanes Sunday at 4:00 pm at the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.
