Tommies to Face Pac-West Runner-up Falcons

Tommies to Face Pac-West Runner-up Falcons

The CCAA National Championships didn’t start out the way the St. Thomas University Tommies would have hoped, falling to the NAIT Ooks 7-0.

NAIT came into the tournament as the CCAA’s highest scoring team averaging 6.5 goals per game, and they proved to be too much for the Tommies on this day.

The Tommies next opponent is coming off an opening tournament loss as well. The Langara Falcons fell 2-1 in penalty kicks to the OCAA champion Humber Hawks.

The Falcons arrive at CCAA Nationals by lieu of 2-1 loss in the Pac-West finals against the Capilano Blues. To get to that game, however, the Falcons had to dethrone defending Pac-West champion and #2 ranked Douglas Royals.

The Falcons are led by Conference All-Stars Merlin Fisk (midfielder/winger), James Millar (midfielder/striker) and Pac West Rookie of the Year Emmanuel Ekeh (striker). They finished the season with a record of 3-6-1 and scored 22 goals while allowing 37.

The winner of this game will play Friday at 4:30 for a chance to move onto the Bronze Medal match, while the losing team plays Saturday morning at 9:00am in the 7th place match.
