(Fredericton, NB) The St. Thomas University Tommies lost to the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves in their home opener at Scotiabank Park Field, 3-2.

The Tommies led the first half with two goals by new players, Josh Niyonkuru (Summerside, PE) in the 24th minute and Brett Springer (Bamberg, ON) in the 44th, showing great promise for future games.

"They brought good energy in the first half," said head coach John-Ryan Morrison. "It's always good to score in your home debut."

Trouble arose for the Tommies in the second half, leaving the Seawolves defender, Cole Healy (Saint John, NB) to score in the 45th minute and midfielder Alex Allison (Quispamsis, NB) in the 56th minutes. The game remined tied until the 77th minute when Allison scored his second goal of the game, leaving the score at 3-2 until the end.

Morrison was disappointed with the outcome of the game, but sees it as a wakeup call for the Tommies.

"Hopefully this will be the lesson for the entire season," said Morrison. "We're not a team that concedes three goals, ever, in the five years I've been coaching."

The Tommies will host the Crandall Chargers on Wednesday, while the Seawolves play University of King's College Blue Devils on Saturday in Saint John.
