Tommies Drop Heartbreaker to Hurricanes

Fredericton, NB – The visiting Holland College Hurricanes snuck past the St. Thomas University Tommies 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Scotiabank Park South.

Ehab Moustafa got the game off to a quick start as he scored in the opening 9 minutes of the game, to give the Hurricanes the early 1-0 advantage.

Rookie, Brett Springer (Bamberg, ON), got the Tommies on the board twice in the first half with a pair of goals showcasing his skill with the ball.

Alex Lourenso would even the game up at two at the 56-minute mark, where the game would stay deadlocked until Jonathan McKenzie scored off of a corner kick in the dying seconds of the match to give the Hurricanes the 3-2 victory.

"We played the game of our season until the dying seconds," said head coach John-Ryan Morrison. "We were our own worst enemy again this game, conceding a corner kick with ten seconds left in the game and losing."

The victory opens up a bit of breathing room at the top of the standings for the Hurricanes, ad they now sit two points clear of second place MSVU with a game in hand. On the flip side, the defeat keeps the Tommies in the bottom of the playoff hunt as they sit one point clear of the UKC Blue Devils, with UKC having a game in hand.

STU is back in action Sunday when they host the Dal AC Rams at 12:00pm, while the Hurricanes will continue their road trip down Highway 7 as they will face the UNBSJ Seawolves.
