Tommies Bounce Back With 4-1 Win Against Rams

Fredericton, NB- The St. Thomas University Tommies used a strong second half to get past the visiting Dalhousie AC Rams 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Scotiabank Park South.

Tommies forward David Effiong (Oman) got his team off to a strong start as he scored in the 21st and 39th minute to give STU the 2-0 lead at halftime.

"I thought was a really slow game," said Tommies head coach John-Ryan Morrison. "We definitely played better, but at the end of the day it is the result that matters, so overall I'm happy."

In the 64th minute Mohamed Camara cut the Tommies lead to 2-1, and the score would stay that way until the 85th minute when Robert LeBlanc (Hartland, NB) and Alex Soulet (Saint Augustine, FL) scored within two minutes of each other.

"Robbie had a great weekend for us," said Morrison about LeBlanc. "His control, trickery and strength and he showed why he was our MVP a couple years ago."

The Tommies have been experimenting with their lineup of late and one big difference in today's match was 5th year defender Eric Prior, was not in his usual spot on the back end. Morrison moved him to the wing for his final home game as a Tommie.

"His little brother, sister and mom are all here from Ontario, so we really wanted him to score a goal, and I know he wanted one more than anyone. He tried his best, but he just can't finish," said Morrison with a chuckle.

The Rams will face the UKC Blue Devils next on Tuesday the 15th, while the Tommies will travel to Holland College to face the Hurricanes the next day.
