Seven months out from his team beginning their ACAA regular season play for the 2020-21 season and Tommies head coach, John-Ryan Morrison has made the first addition to his recruiting class.

Evan Rees has committed to join the Tommies for the upcoming season following a successful campaign with the Berlin Football Academy in Ontario. Described as a “strong, physical defender” by Morrison, Rees will compete to fill the void left from the graduation of three-time ACAA All-Star, Eric Prior.

“He’s got a good soccer pedigree from some of the top teams in western Ontario and I was particularly impressed when he still wanted to come down for his campus tour despite being on crutches and unable to compete,” said Morrison. “It showed me that his decision on where he was going in the fall was more than just about soccer, but to learn firsthand about the quality of the education and to experience the great community atmosphere here at STU. Not many student athletes his age look at the big picture so it shows a maturity that will help our program now and grow in the future.”

Rees mirrored Morrison’s comments about the tight knit community at STU.

“I chose STU because I felt a great sense of community, to receive a great education and the campus was very pretty. I was also impressed with the athletic facilities and the dressing room and of course the chance to play soccer at the university level was always a dream of mine.”

When asked what he was going to bring to the Tommies the defender responded with, “I know that I will bring a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, dedication to my team and academics, respect for my coach and will give 110% to everything I set my mind on.”
