Tommies Shutout Seawolves in Sixth Consecutive Victory

Fredericton, NB - The St. Thomas University Tommies came away with a comfortable 4-0 victory against the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves on Wednesday evening at the Grant Harvey Turf Field.

John-Ryan Morrison, STU head coach, believed his team were playing at their best in this match.

"That was the best game we played all year," Morrison said. "From kickoff to the 90th minute, we got all 18 guys in again, we got multiple goal scorers and it was our best performance so far this season."

The Tommies took the lead through their main man, Brett Springer (Bamberg, ON). This was followed by an incredible, long-range goal from Idean Rahimkhani (Toronto, ON), which sent the crowd into a frenzy. Springer got another goal in the second half from the penalty spot, his eighth of the season, tied for first in the Atlantic Athletic Collegiate Association. Josh Kuehl (Waterloo, ON) rounded off an exemplary performance from the Tommies.

The Tommies kept a clean sheet once again and one of the outstanding players on the day was Nicholas Landry (Dieppe, NB), whose assists helped them surge ahead in the first half.

Morrison was proud of the performance from Landry.

"Nicholas brings a different dimension to our backline and his passing was great and his calmness and ability to play out from the back was great today," he said.

The Tommies, ranked sixth in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association, remain unbeaten. Their sixth consecutive victory has earned them a 7-0-1 record, leading the Atlantic Athletic Association. The Seawolves are now 3-5, clinging on to the fourth and final playoff spot - two points ahead of the Holland College Hurricanes.

The next match for the Tommies will be away to the Crandall University Chargers on October 12th while UNBSJ will host the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics on October 7th.
