Tommies Sweep Seawolves, Advance to ACAA Final

The St. Thomas University Tommies earned a berth to the ACAA men's volleyball championship final after defeating the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves 3-0 in semifinal action Saturday night at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym.

Set scores were 25-19, 27-25, and 32-30.

Christian Christie led the Tommies with 14 kills, while Garret Dickson added nine kills and nine total blocks in the win.

The Seawolves were sparked by Luke O'Grady, who connected for 11 kills and five digs. Ty Poore added nine kills and Zane Hamilton chipped in with seven.

It was back and forth throughout the first set, but the Tommies took the lead off three straight points from Christie and never looked back.

The Seawolves responded in the second, tying the game at 13-13, but multiple attack errors gave the Tommies an edge and a 24-18 lead. The Seawolves clawed their way back into the set off multiple attacks from Hamilton, but a big kill from Christie followed by an unforced error gave the Tommies a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, the Seawolves jumped to an early lead, but the Tommies chipped away and were able to close the gap off strong hitting from Dickson out of the middle. The teams exchanged points—and were tied at 20, 24, and 30—before the Tommies were able to score two in a row to complete the sweep.

The Tommies will face the Holland College Hurricanes tomorrow in the ACAA final at 3:30 pm.
