The men's volleyball team at St. Thomas University has added another recruit to the 2017-2018 roster.

Ben Singer, of Halifax, Nova Scotia, has committed to join the Tommies in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association following the dissolution of the men's volleyball program at Memorial University.

Singer, a highly-touted recruit coming out of Citadel High School, didn't want his volleyball career to end—and neither did Tommies head coach Henri Mallet.

 "When I received an email from Coach Mallet to play for St. Thomas, it gave me a little bit of hope that my volleyball career could still go to the next level," Singer said.

Singer travelled to Fredericton to tour campus and committed to the program the following day.

"I chose St. Thomas because it has the program that I want and it also has a great men's volleyball team," he said. "I also have a few friends from club and provincial teams who are attending STU and playing volleyball."

Mallet said he's thrilled to have Singer join the program and is looking forward to utilizing his unique skill-set.

"Ben is a pretty good passer for his size and we see him as a possible left side player. With his athleticism, he will be able to control a match with many different skills," Mallet said.

Singer's club and high school teams both came up short in provincial finals this year, so he's hoping to strike gold suiting up for the Tommies in the years to come.

"My main goal is to contribute to the volleyball team and win a championship in the ACAA and in the CCAA, but also to take advantage of the educational opportunities at St. Thomas in pursuing a degree in Criminology."
