The St. Thomas University men’s volleyball has caught a case of the blues – but not in the traditional sense.

Noah Tulk, the Oromocto High School Blues star, has committed to the Tommies for the 2019-2020 season, becoming the first recruit for the 2019-20 season.

A well sought out middle blocker, Tulk is a back to back provincial champion – winning a gold medal with the Reds Volleyball Club 2017, and most recently with the Spartans Volleyball Club in 2018. He flourished at the Volleyball New Brunswick championships, and was named to the provincial all-star team.

It’s no surprise that Tulk was at the top of head coach Henri Mallet’s recruiting board.

“It’s great that Noah is a proven winner, but it’s the intangibles, such as being extremely coachable and a team player that makes him appealing. Add to the fact that he has serious untapped potential, Noah is a great person and teammate,” said Mallet.

With the help of Tommies assistant coach Brad Mahar, who coached Tulk for two summers with Team New Brunswick, Mallet invited him to take in an exhibition match during Christmas break.

“After talking to coach Mallet about how the program was run and the expectations of his players, I knew that STU would be a great fit. I also have a good relationship with coach Brad Mahar, I really enjoyed playing for him with Team NB,” said Tulk.”

Looking ahead, Tulk is already eyeing a long and successful career.

“I want to help STU win a national championship, but personally my goals are to just keep working hard, get stronger and become a better volleyball player, all while graduating with a degree in journalism.”

Tulk follows the footsteps of fellow Oromocto High School alum and ACAA MVP Jason Cannon, who played for the Tommies from 2012-2015.
