SEASON RECAP: 2017-2018 a Season of Growth for Tommies Women's Basketball

The 2017-2018 season was one of growth for the women's basketball team at St. Thomas University.

With a young roster—nine of 13 players were in first or second year—the Tommies spent the first portion of the season learning and held a 2-3 record at the break.

The STU squad found their stride in the second half and in February won six of their seven games to finish the regular season with an 11-7 record.

As the fourth place team in the ACAA, the Tommies faced the University of King's College Blue Devils in the conference quarterfinal. Despite falling behind early, the Tommies used a strong second quarter to take the lead en route to an 84-73 victory and a berth to the ACAA semifinal.

With a trip to the championship final on the line, the Tommies were up against the top-seeded Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics. A slow start in the semifinal gave the Mystics an early advantage that they were able to ride to a 42-21 halftime lead. Despite a push from the Tommies in the third quarter, the Mystics cruised to a 81-49 win.

Jessica Patenaude was recognized at the championship awards banquet with an ACAA first team all-conference award.
