The St. Thomas University Tommies have punched their ticket to the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) women's basketball finals with a 61-36 victory over the Mount Allison university Mounties.  

The Tommies used their trademark defense to pave the way in the 25 point win. They held the Mounties without a field goal in the first quarter and limited them to 10% shooting from the field in the first half.  

The Tommies created havoc for the Mounties all afternoon, forcing 32 turnovers in the game, while on the flip side, only committed 12 of their own.  

"We felt really locked in on what we wanted to do defensively," said head coach Fred Connors. "They really stayed active and aggressive. It was as good as we have defended all year."

CCAA All-Canadian Bridget Frazee (Sussex, NB) led all scorers with 18 points on the day, while ACAA Rookie of the Year, Vanessa Soffee (Fredericton, NB), chipped in with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.  

"Bridget and Vanessa really played well today," said Connors. "I liked the way they kept attacking the basket and not settling. I felt the tone was set on the defensive end though and that took everyone's effort so I am really proud of the whole group."

STU will now face the undefeated Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in Sunday's final. The Mystics advanced earlier on Saturday thanks to a 90-45 victory over the UKC Blue Devils. Tip off will be at 1:00 and you can catch all the action on acaatv.ca.
