Mystics Claim ACAA Crown With 76-41 Win Over Tommies

The St. Thomas University Tommies fell short of the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association Championship, falling 76-41 to the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics.

With the victory, the Mystics capped off an undefeated ACAA season, going 23-0 through the regular season and playoffs.

The Mystics came out of the gate on fire, jumping out to a 25-7 lead after the first quarter.

"I felt we had a great weekend and showed some great strides," said head coach Fred Connors. "Today we ran into a very determined and well coached squad that played a very aggressive game. We didn't respond collectively, and we came out on the wrong end this time."

The Tommies did their best to cut the lead going into halftime, outscoring MSVU 16-13 in the second quarter, but MSVU was too much to handle on the day, outscoring STU 38-18 in the second half.

Lainy Dow (Fredericton, NB) and Christina Richardson (Ottawa, ON) had 10 points each for the Tommies, with the latter posting 10 rebounds as well.

5th year forward Madison Doucet paced the Mystics with 17 points.

"We are very proud of the girls for what they accomplished this season, and are excited for what the future holds," added Connors.

The Mystics will be the representative from the ACAA at CCAA Nationals, hosted by the Sainte-Foy Dynamiques March 14-16.
