Tommies Use Second Quarter to Tame Seawolves

Fredericton, NB- The St. Thomas University Tommies defeated the University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves 89-53, buoyed by a second quarter that had them outscore the Seawolves 22-4.

The Tommies were led on offence by Morgan McHatten (Woodstock, NB) who had 17 points. In her 3rd start of the season for the Tommies McHatten delivered for her team.

"It was a matter of getting comfortable with her," said Tommies head coach of McHatten, who transferred from Crandall University this season. "We know that she can score the ball, so its just a matter of coming in and working hard. She has come back from the break fantastic for us."

The Tommies received contribution across the board, as every player scored at least 3 points in the team win. Second year point guard, Vanessa Soffee (Fredericton, NB), also continued her stellar year, by filling the box score with 6 points, 6 steals, 6 rebounds and 10 assists.

"We are going to need all 10 players to be able to play down the stretch," said Connors about his team's depth. "I am very happy with our depth, and our energy tonight from the entire team was very good."

Jillian McNally (Woodstock, NB) had a great game for the Seawolves, finishing with 14 points, 6 assists and 8 rebounds, while Julia Bennett (Quispamsis, NB) chipped in with 14 points of her own.

The win gives the Tommies a record of 6-3 on the year, while the Seawolves drop to 2-7.

UNBSJ will travel to Halifax to face the MSVU Mystics on Saturday, January 18th, while the Tommies will be in Moncton to face the Crandall Chargers that same day.
