The St. Thomas University Tommies have locked down their first recruit for the 2020-2021 season, and it’s a “big” one.

6’1” centre Celine Sterckel, of Moncton, NB, has agreed to join Fred Connors and the Tommies. The Moncton High Knights product has an impressive resume to bring to the Tommies. She has been on two Team New Brunswick rosters, U14 and U17 and two-time Adidas Top 40 Camp All-Star, and was an NBIAA All-Star in 2018.

Head coach Fred Connors and his team are very excited to have Sterckel step into the fold next season and everyone agrees she will fit in well with the team.

“We have seen her grow as a player and feel she is a great fit with the chemistry of this team,” said Connors. “Most of the players have been able to meet and talk with Celine and they are all very excited she has chosen STU and are very much looking forward to working with her.”

“I chose STU for basketball because the team chemistry and they are really supportive towards one another,” added Sterckel. “The first time I met them they treated me as if I was already on the team, which was really nice. I also chose STU because it was the right academic fit for me.”

While the chemistry is a big fit for Connors when it comes to recruiting for his team, Sterckel has a lot to offer on the court as well.

“She is a well-rounded player who can stretch the floor with her shooting but isn’t afraid to get physical and use her height to play in the post.”

Sterckel will finish her high school career with Moncton High School, who currently sit atop the NBIAA North-East division with a 5-0 record, before turning her attention to the Tommies.
