The St. Thomas University Tommies topped the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers 6-0 in AUS women's hockey action Sunday afternoon at the Grant-Harvey Centre.

The Tommies got on the board first when Lauren Henman found the back of the net just 25 seconds into the second period for a 1-0 lead.

The Tommies kept the pressure up and shortly after Henman netted her second of the game, which was followed by a goal from Lauren Legault to give STU a commanding 3-0 lead.

Tommies head coach Peter Murphy was pleased with the offensive prowess of his team.

"We know we have a team that can score goals," he said. "On the defensive side, we were good in the first two periods for sure, but we got a little cute in the third."

Midway through the second period, Henman struck for the third time to give her the hat trick and put the Tommies up 4-0 going into the second intermission.

"She just hasn't gotten the breaks lately," Murphy said of Henman. "She's been doing a lot of good things, and we knew eventually she was going to come around."

The Tommies did not let up with Danielle Ring deflecting the puck to the back of the net less than a minute into the third period to extend the Tommies lead to 5-0.

With the goal the Tommies have now scored five or more goals in their past three games.

Becky Conner scored her team-leading sixth goal late in the third to give the Tommies a 6-0 win.

"Becky's a sniper," Murphy said. "She doesn't get the attention she deserves, but she's an offensive scoring player. She's doing very well."

Henman was named the Subway Player of the Game, while Abby Clarke and Kristina Kocsis were the game's second and third stars, respectively.

Clarke earned her third consecutive win in net, turning away all 24 shots she faced. Camille Scherger took the loss for the Panthers with 12 saves.

The Tommies are back in action Friday night when they visit the Saint Mary's Huskies in Halifax, while the Panthers will host the Dalhousie Tigers in Charlottetown.
