Women’s Rugby Adds Duo From Mathieu-Martin: Myriam Noel and Alexia Korytko to Join Tommies

The St. Thomas University Tommies women's rugby team has added a pair of provincial champions to the 2017-2018 lineup.

Myriam Noel and Alexia Korytko, products of École Mathieu-Martin in Moncton, NB, will join the Tommies this season in pursuit of an Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association title.

Noel, who competed with Mathieu-Martin the past four years, captained this year's team which captured the inaugural 'AAA' High School Rugby 7s title this spring. She also earned team MVP honours.

"Myriam is a scrumhalf who uses quick thinking and her foot speed to make an impact on the field," Tommies head coach Meghan Morrison said. "Her excellent attitude and good on-field experience will make her a great addition to the Tommies."

Korytko joined the Mathieu-Martin squad two years ago and was named Rookie of the Year in her debut season. Despite her limited experience, Morrison said Korytko will be a strong defensive addition to the Green and Gold.

"Alexia has picked up the game very quickly and developed a love for the sport," Morrison said. "She will be contributing in our scrum at second row this season, and I can't wait to welcome her to the Tommies athletics family."

Noel and Korytko were both drawn to St. Thomas for its size and supportive community.

"STU seemed like the perfect fit for me," Korytko said. "The small class sizes, close connections with professors, and the rugby team immediately caught my attention."

"I was told they have a great Criminology program," Noel added. "I also like the fact the university is accepting of the LGBTQIA+ community."

Noel and Korytko join Melissa Totten, of Truro, NS, in this year's recruiting class.
