Tommies Climb Over Mounties

(Fredericton, NB) The St Thomas University Tommies toppled the mt Allison University Mounties 40-7 in what will be a first-round matchup in the playoffs next week.

Scoring tries for the Tommies were Olivia Ricketts (Saint John, NB), Emily Donelle (3) (Moncton, NB), Becca Baker (Keswick Ridge, NB), and graduating players Shannon Morris (2) (Saint John, NB) and Meghan Pollard (Saint John, NB).

Pollard, Morris and Andrews were part of a group of graduating players that included Abbie LeBlanc (Fredericton, NB),  Kristen Bulman (Moncton, NB), Hope Metallic (Listiguj, QC), and Katie Merritt(Hoyt, NB) to be honoured pregame.

The Mounties struck first within the first five minutes of the game, but after that it was all Tommies once Ricketts got them on the board.

"I think that we spent a lot of time in their end without actually getting it in the endzone," said head coach Meghan Morrison. "That's something we don't want to have happen next week when we face them again."

With the win the Tommies will finish second in the ACAA regular season and host the Mounties again next week in Fredericton, with the winner moving on to face the UNB Reds the week after that.
