WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE THE CCAA WOMEN'S SOCCER QUARTERFINALS

WHO WILL THE TOMMIES FACE IN THE FIRST ROUND?

The Grand Prairie Regional College Wolves

WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THEM?

The Wolves claimed the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference title after edging the NAIT Ooks 2-1 in penalty kicks in the championship game. They are the top seed in Pool A at the CCAA Championships—the Tommies are the fourth seed—and their last national ranking pegged them at no. 5.

HOW WILL THE TOMMIES APPROACH THE GAME?

STU head coach Michelle DeCourcey said the Tommies will need to contain the Wolves' offensive threats and compete as a unit for 90 minutes.

"We know they have a few speedy strikers who we will need to contain to be successful. We'll also need to put forward a united 90-minute effort."

HOW ARE THE TOMMIES FEELING HEADING INTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP?

"We feel cautiously optimistic and excited knowing this will be a new and awesome experience for the coaching staff and student-athletes," Decourcey said.

The focus throughout the tournament will be on the process and not the result—something the Tommies have emphasized all season.

"We need to stay focused on the process and play to our strengths," DeCourcey said. "We have a strong defensive core, a creative midfield, and some speedy attackers, so if we put the work in defensively and choose our moments to attack as a team wisely, we should be successful."
