Tommies Take Down Dalhousie AC, Improve League Best Record

Fredericton, NB- The St. Thomas University Tommies controlled the Dalhousie Agricultural Rams en route to a 4-0 win Saturday afternoon at Scotiabank Park South.

The Tommies struck early and often in this affair, when Nikita McCartney (Moncton, NB) opened the scoring in the 11th minute as she rifled the ball past the keeper for the early lead.

Tommies head coach, Michelle Decourcey, was pleased with what she saw from her young star.

"Nikita has been a key player for our team this year," said Decourcey. "She's been able to score in just about every game which is really nice to have."

The Tommies did not stop there, when McCartney struck again on a beautiful ball from the centre of the field, tapping it in for her second of the afternoon.

The play was primarily controlled in the Rams' end with the Tommies driving the momentum.

"We've been coming to every game very well prepared," said Decourcey. "We had a very first strong 20 minutes and we set the tone."

Louisa Hughes (Fredericton, NB) was the next Tommie to join the goal party on a lobbed ball that flew just over the reach of the Ilan Prokop (Kelowna, BC) in the Rams net to extend the Tommies' lead to 3-0.

Prokop made 13 saves to keep the Rams within striking distance.

The Tommies tallied one more goal on a beautiful strike from Leandra Upton (Fredericton, NB), putting the finishing touches to 4-0 victory.

With the win, the Tommies improved to 4-0-1 on the season, the Rams fall to 0-4.

The Tommies are back in action Sunday when they take on the Holland College Hurricanes at 1:15pm at Scotiabank Park South.
