Tommies Blank Blue Devils 4-0

(Fredericton, NB) The St Thomas University Tommies remained undefeated on the season, as they defeated the University of King's College Blue Devils by a score of 4-0.

In a game that saw the Tommies honour their four graduating players; Sarah Hickman (Middle Sackville, NS), Moira Kinney (Florenceville-Bristol, NB), Katie McDermaid (Bathurst, NB), and Brittany Bertolin (Riverview, NB), it was a true team effort that led to the 4-0 victory.

7 minutes into the game it was Kinney who caused a turnover at midfield and the ball ended up at the feet of Nikita McCartney (Moncton, NB) who sprinted in all alone and slid her league leading 14th goal of the season home. This marks the 9th straight game McCartney has found the back of the net.

On the day she was honoured Kinney continued to shine on the field as she would get a goal of her own at the 12-minute mark to push the Tommie lead to 2-0.

Just before the halftime whistle the Tommies were awarded a corner kick and Louisa Hughes (Fredericton, NB) sent the ball in and it was Leandra Upton (Fredericton, NB) finishing the play off.

The Tommies were looking to get their fourth goal of the game after some great work from Kinney in the box led to a penalty kick. Silvia Fullarton (Fredericton, NB) stepped up, but was turned away by a great save from the UKC keeper, Molly Lash-Burrows (Vancouver, BC).

Fullarton would get on the score sheet as she lofted in a shot from the wing that beat Lash-Burrows for the Tommies fourth and final goal.

Mary Cronin (Fredericton, NB) made four saves for the clean sheet, while Lash-Burrows stopped 12 shots in a losing effort.

UKC will host the Dalhousie AC Rams in a mid-week affair on Wednesday, while the Tommies will travel to Truro on Saturday for a matchup with the Rams.
