Young Tommies Look to Improve During 2019-20 Season

The Tommies women’s track team will return four runners from last year’s team, while adding six others to round out the 2019-20 squad.

Distance runners Jensen Elliott, Alaine Mejia, Julia MacDonald and sprinter Grace Baker are the veterans of the team, and they will be joined by distance runners Jessica Kenny and Priya Bhutani, as well as sprinters Andrea Bell, Grace Beaulieu, Iricia flint-Downey, and Kaleigh Ogden.

Head coach Nicholas Larade is setting the bar high for this year’s team, knowing the potential it has during their meets.

“We want to see stronger relay performances, especially in the 4x400 and 4x800, and to continue to set new personal bests for all our athletes.”

With several athletes being able to return for next year’s team, Larade is also excited about the future for the women’s track program at St. Thomas.

“We hope to continue developing our athletes this year. Many members of our team will be returning for at least one more season, so we will hopefully see steady improvement that will set us up well for February and beyond. Being able to compete multiple times during exhibition meets on the same surface as the championship will hopefully help our athletes be mentally prepared for competition.”

The Tommies will open their season on November 23rd, when they travel to Saint John, NB.
