The women's volleyball team at St. Thomas University has added its first recruit for the 2018-2019 season.

Jolie Allain, a product of Miramichi Valley High School, has committed to join the STU Tommies on the court next season.

A left side hitter, Allain was an integral part of the MVHS Pulamoo team that claimed the 2016-2017 NBIAA 'AAA' women's volleyball title. She will bring solid defence, a strong swing from the service line, and high-level experience to the Tommies.

Carla Dickson, coach of the Miramichi club team, said Allain is a "force to be reckoned with" on the left side.

"Jolie is average height, but she jumps well and has a powerful attack," she said. "She's a great passer and will do all that she can to make sure her team comes out on top."

The soon to be MVHS grad has ample experience—she's played six seasons with the Miramichi Volleyball Club and four years with the Pulamoo. She's also been a member of various Volleyball New Brunswick teams.

STU bench boss Don McKay said it was Allain's approach to the game that got his attention.

"Jolie brings a pleasant but very competitive attitude to the game. She loves to be involved in the play and attacks aggressively with a hard swing," he said. "I believe she will fit in nicely with our returning players."

The Tommies are coming off a solid season that saw them clinch a spot in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association championship final for the first time since 2013.  The STU squad fell short against the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in the title match and took home the ACAA silver medal.
