Hurricnaes Storm Past Tommies 3-0

Fredericton, NB- The Holland College Hurricanes defeated the St. Thomas University Tommies 3-0 (25-23, 25-15, 26-24) Sunday afternoon at the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium.

The Hurricanes showcased a balanced attack with three players finishing the game with 9 kills each; Abby Hyndman, Zayley Murphy and Samantha Gerbig, with the latter adding 6 service aces as well. Megan Mills led the Tommies with 5 kills.

The first set featured a back and forth attack leading to the Hurricane victory on a service ace from Marissa Macaulay.

The Hurricanes would pull away in the second set, going on a 13-6 run and taking that set as well.

Despite being down, Tommies head coach, Don McKay, was pleased with his team's effort.

"I was pleased with the effort, and its nice to be in games that are tight and close. Obviously we would like to be on the other end of those two point sets."

5th year libero, Mija MacDonald, was one of the players McKay was referencing, as she regularly laid her body on the line to keep balls in ball throughout the entire match.

"Mija is probably one of the best liberos in transition. She is all over the court and doesn't foresee any ball that she can't get to. She's 5th year and has had a lot of passes in her career and gives everything she has."

With the victory Holland College remains undefeated with a 4-0 record, with the Tommies dropping to 1-2. Both teams will be back in action on Saturday, November 16th when the Tommies travel to Church Point, NS to take on the Universite Sainte-Anne, while the Hurricanes will play host to Mount Saint Vincent University.
