Tommies this Week

The Tommies will be busy at the Lady Beaverbrook Gym all weekend, with a pair of volleyball matchups and a visit from a basketball rival on Friday night. Meanwhile, the Women's hockey team hit the road for a must win game.

Here's everything you need to know about the Tommies this Week.

 Friday, Feb. 3

Women's basketball vs. Mount Allison University Mounties 6:00 PM @ Lady Beaverbrook Gym

The Tommies haven't played the Mounties since the opening day in the ACAA basketball regular season, where the Tommies fell 68-50. The Mounties have climbed to a strong 8-2 record, only behind the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics in the standings.

The Mounties are led by Abby Miller, a fifth-year forward from Mt. Denson, NS. Miller posts strong offensive numbers, averaging 15.4 points per game, the third most in the ACAA, off of a 52.8 field goal percentage, second highest in the league. At 5'11", Miller is also aggresive on the boards, landing in the top-5 in rebounds per game with 8.1.

Men's basketball vs. MTA Mounties 8:00 PM @ Lady Beaverbrook Gym

Like the Women's team, the Mounties have yet to visit the Tommies this season. The two matched up in the Tommies' first regular season game, where the Tommies escaped in a thrilling 100-97 win.

Since then, the Mounties have found themselves at an even 5-5 record, fifth in the ACAA. Led by the top scorer in the ACAA, Noah McCarthey, Mount A's offense is top-3 in the ACAA. McCarthey scores 22.4 of the Mounties' 85 points per game. With his 47 3-point percentage, the Mountie's team 3-point percentage of 38.4 only trails the Tommies (42.1%) for top in the league.

Women's hockey @ Dalhousie Tigers 7:00 PM

With just four games remaining in the 2022-23, the Tommies' playoff chances hang by a thread - every game becomes more important than the last at this point. STU trails the Université de Moncton Aigles Blues by four points for the last AUS playoff spot.
