
Mounties fight back but fall short against Tommies
(SACKVILLE, NB) The Mount Allison Mounties lost 100-97 to the St. Thomas Tommies in what was the season opener for both teams. For the Mounties, it was the first regular season action away from their home gym this Fall as McCormack gymnasium continues to undergo renovations.
The game was close from the opening whistle as the teams traded leads through the 1st and 2nd quarters until ultimately arriving at the half time break 56-52 for the Tommies. A big third quarter for the Tommies gave them an eight-point lead heading into the 4th quarter where they were able to hold on for victory.
Fifth-year guard Noah McCarthy (Grand Falls, NB) had 21 points to lead the way for the Mounties while second-year standout Jonas Munroe (Moncton, NB) added 18 points and 5 rebounds.
Gayo Isaya (Fredericton, NB) led the way with 29 points for the Tommies.
Mount Allison (0-1) will travel to PEI on November 4 to play Holland for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
St. Thomas (1-0) for their part will play host to UNBSJ on November 6 at 2 p.m.
