CHURCH POINT, N.S. - On Sunday afternoon at the Marcel-R.-Comeau Sports Centre at Universite Sainte-Anne in Church Point, the Dragons defeated the Saint Thomas University Tommies 3-2 in a back and forth affair that did not disappoint. Both teams had tremendous support from their fans and the energy was nothing short of a playoff type atmosphere. The Dragons swept the weekend series 2-0 and reclaimed 1st place overall in the ACAA Men's Volleyball Division.
The Tommies played with purpose and passion taking control early and winning the 1st set 25-19. Sainte-Anne came back strong taking the 2nd set : 25-15. The Tommies replied winning the 3rd set: 25-14. Once again the Dragons replied by winning the 4th set : 25-20. The 5th set went back and forth and finally the Dragons prevailed winning 15-13 and taking the match 3-2.
For the Dragons, Alec Cottreau lead the way with 23 kills, Joshua Aucoin added 46 assists and Braidey Spinney lead with 12 digs while Louis-Philippe LeBlanc, Vincent Doucet, Joshua Aucoin & Alec Cottreau chipped in with 10 digs each. For the Tommies, Adam McDougall contributed with 14 kills, Raph Fiset lead with 33 assists and Brenton Romanchuk lead with 12 digs.
The Tommies are now 7-5 and tied for 2nd place with Holland Hurricanes with 14 points each, while the Dragons improve to 8-3 with 16 points and 1st place in the League Standings. STU hosts Holland on Saturday February 4th and Sunday February 5th 2023 at 8 PM and 12 PM respectively. Meanwhile, the Dragons host UNBSJ for 3 games: on Friday February 3rd at 8 PM, Saturday February 4th at 6 PM and on Sunday February 5th 2023 at 11 AM as 2 of the 3 matches are rescheduled games that were cancelled in mid January due to weather conditions.

Les deux équipes ont bénéficié d'un appui extraordinaire de la part de leurs partisans et l'énergie déployée n'était rien de moins qu'une atmosphère de séries éliminatoires. Les Dragons ont gagné la série de la fin de semaine 2-0 et ont récupéré la première place au classement général de la division masculine de volley-ball de l'AASC.
Les Tommies ont joué avec détermination et passion en prenant le contrôle tôt et en gagnant le premier set 25-19. Sainte-Anne est revenu en force en prenant le 2e set : 25-15. Les Tommies ont répliqué en gagnant le 3e set : 25-14. Une fois de plus les Dragons ont répondu en gagnant le 4ème set : 25-20. Le 5ème set a été très serré et finalement les Dragons l'ont remporté 15-13 et ont gagné le match 3-2.

Pendant ce temps, les Dragons accueillent UNBSJ pour 3 matchs : le vendredi 3 février à 20h, le samedi 4 février à 18h et le dimanche 5 février 2023 à 11h. 2 des 3 matchs sont des matchs reportés qui avaient été annulés à la mi-janvier en raison des conditions météorologiques.
