Second Half Surge Pushes Mystics Past Tommies

Jekyll and Hyde. That was the story of the St. Thomas University men's basketball game against the visiting MSVU Mystics.

The Tommies got off to a great start, leading the Mystics 21-17 after the first quarter.

It remained a close game going into the half, as MSVU grabbed a 35-34 lead.

That's when Hyde showed up. The Tommies were outscored 40-19 in the second half on their way to a 75-53 loss. MSVU outrebounded STU, 51-24.

"First half we were right there with them," said head coach Scott MacLeod. "We knew they could go off at any point, and they did in the 3rd quarter. We had a hard time slowing them down. Then they started rushing us and we started rushing ourselves. We are still a very young team."

Tario Sands led the Mystics with 21 points and 9 rebounds off the bench. Geoffrey Lavoie (Ottawa, ON) gave the Tommies a boost with 15 points before fouling out in the 4th quarter.

Both teams are on the road Sunday as STU heads to MTA to face the Mounties, while MSVU travels to Crandall to tip off with the Chargers.
