Tommies Erupt for 93-66 Victory Over Blue Devils

The St. Thomas University Tommies erupted for a 93-66 victory over the University of King's College Blue Devils on Sunday.

The win marked the third victory for the Tommies pushing their record to 3-8, while the Blue Devils fall to 3-7.

The Blue Devils were led by William Colpitts (Halifax, NS) and Ben West (Halifax, NS) who had 13 and 10 points, while the Tommies were paced by Almin Dervisevic (Ottawa, ON) and Carlo Theriault (Campbellton, NB) who both had 16.

The Tommies used a strong two middle quarters to break the game open, outscoring UKC 56-28 during that stretch.

"This is such a critical win for us. These midrange teams in the standings are must wins for us, so the guys were ready to play for sure," said head coach Scott MacLeod. "We still need to work on rebounding, still struggling on the offensive rebounding, but Harrison Florean coming back will help there."

In the Tommies loss to the MSVU Mystics on Saturday the bench combined for 10 points in the game, but in Sunday's victory they erupted for 40 to help lead the Tommies.

"When you can go deep into your bench and get scoring, and your bench can outscore theirs, you have to leave those guys on the floor and stay in rhythm," said MacLeod.

The Tommies host the MTA Mounties in a Friday night game on the 18th, while the Blue Devils host the UNBSJ Seawolves on the 20th with those two teams currently being tied in the ACAA standings.
