John Hickey Takes Over as Head Coach of STU Men's Basketball

John Hickey has been named the new head coach for the Men's Basketball Program at St. Thomas University.

Hickey, who earned his Bachelor of Education from STU in 2011, is taking over from Scott MacLeod, who spent 19 years with the program—four as the team's head coach.

"I'm excited and honored to accept the position as Head Coach of the men's basketball program at St. Thomas.  I'm truly looking forward to following in the footsteps of some great people and coaches who've helped build this program to where it is today."

John is a long time basketball coach in the Fredericton area and with Basketball New Brunswick. He spent 15 years coaching at Leo Hayes High School and most recently head coach of the BNB U17 team in 2018. He was assistant coach with the 2017 New Brunswick men's Canada Games team was also head coach for the 2013 Canada Games team that finished in fourth place.

Athletic Director, Michael Eagles is also looking forward to seeing the program grow under John's leadership and passion for the game.
