The St. Thomas men's basketball team claimed a 98-92-over-time victory over the Mount Allison Mounties. Unfortunately, the Tommies needed to win by seven points to move up to 2nd place. The Tommies now sit 3rd in the league.
A graduation ceremony took place before todays game, congratulating Michael Otoo (Ottawa, ON) for an outrageous career as a Tommie. Otoo is known for his infectious laugh and dedication to his teammates.
The first quarter ended with a Tommies lead of 21-16. The points came from various players on the team. The Mounties made a come-back in the 2nd scoring almost double of that of the Tommies, 26-15. The Mounties took the first half 42- 36.
The Mounties lead for a majority of the 3rd but lost the lead, 62-60. The 4th was an equal competition, Tommies scoring 27 points and Mounties scoring 25, the game ended with a tie of 87. After 5 intense minutes the over-time buzzer finalized the game at 98-92 in favour of the Tommies
Dervisevic also finished with 9 rebounds and 17 assists. Braden with 6 rebounds and 2 blocks. Daemen Hemphill (Grand Falls, NB) was also a notable for the Tommies with 13 rebounds.
The Tommies shot 50.0% from the field and 33.3% from the 3pt line.
Brett Curtis (Harvey, NB) and Noah McCarthy (Fredericton, NB) carried the scoring for the Mount A. Mounties. Curtis with 26 pts and 5 rebounds. McCarthy with 24 pts, 5 rebounds, and 9 assists. The Mounties shot 45.3% from the field.
Both teams head to the play offs next weekend.
