Woodstock's Daniel Hawkes Marks 1st 2020-21 Recruit For Men's Basketball

Name: Daniel Hawkes
Hometown: Woodstock, NB
Position: Point Guard
Height: 6’3”
Prospective Program: English and Education

John Hickey continues to put his mark on the men’s basketball program as Daniel Hawkes, a 6’3” point guard from Woodstock High School. This comes on the heels of the announcement that Fredericton’s Gayo Isaya will be transferring from the StFX X-Men.

“I ended up choosing to come play for STU, honestly because Coach John had recruited me so well,” said Hawkes. “He saw an interest in me and I felt like I would be a great fit for their basketball team.”

Hickey sees a lot more than just a basketball player when it comes to Hawkes, as he brings plenty to the STU community.

"Daniel has a lot of the characteristics and qualities that we want our program to stand for. He's an extremely hard worker,” said Hickey. “I've followed Daniel's progress over the last couple of years through the BNB teams, as well as at Woodstock High School. His game has really matured over the last couple of years. He's someone who can handle the basketball under pressure. He's also a guy who can knock down shots if you leave him open. On the other side of the ball, Daniel will bring continuous energy and a willingness to put his body on the line. This type of defensive energy is contagious and can run through the entire team.”

Hawkes is looking forward to getting to campus and don the green and gold.

“I’ve played against quite a few of the team’s players in high school and I have watched nearly all of their games either in person or online. STU also offered a great academic program that is strong in education, this school was the perfect fit for my endeavors of becoming a children’s teacher.”
