Blue Devils Fall to Tommies 1-0

(Fredericton, NB) The St Thomas University Tommies handed the University of King's College Blue Devils their third straight loss, a 1-0 defeat.

Scoring opportunities were hard to come by, but in the 28th minute the UKC attack broke through and had the best chance of the first half. The ball slid past rookie keeper George Tzimas (Toronto, ON) and was on its way into the back of the net before defender John Hunter (Fredericton, NB) cleared it off the goal line at the last second.

The game remained scoreless until the 77th minute when the Tommies earned a penalty kick, and Kyle Yearwood (Barbados) stepped up and calmly deposited the ball into the back of the net to give the Tommies a 1-0 lead.

From there it was shutdown defense from the Tommies as they didn't give up many scoring chances down the stretch.

"Six points, and that's what we needed to do," said head coach John-Ryan Morrison about his team's two wins on the weekend. "We played great the second half today, and we played great the second half yesterday. If we can keep that up against other teams I think we will be a team to beat."

UKC will host the Dalhousie AC Rams on Wednesday, while the Tommies will be on the road to Truro to play the Rams on Saturday.
