Tommies Share Scoresheet in 4-0 Victory Over Chargers

Fredericton, NB – The St. Thomas University Tommies' Men's soccer team dominated the Crandall University Chargers in a 4-0 win on Sunday in their first home game of the season.

Head coach John-Ryan Morrison was happy with his team's performance.

"It feels great. I'm happy with the clean sheet and with the four different goal scorers and we got to put on a show for our fans."

The Tommies were out of the blocks from the first minute while Crandall never began their charge. The majority of the first half was played in the Crandall half and it was only a matter of time before last season's top scorer, Brett Springer (Bamberg, ON), opened the scoring. Springer got onto the end of a bouncing cross and added a clinical finish.

It wasn't long before the Tommies were 2-0 up as captain Ryan MacKinnon (Fredericton, NB) ghosted in at the back-post to nod home the second. They went into halftime in full control of the game.

The second half was much of the same dominance from STU despite making seven changes. Well-taken goals from Idean Rahimkhani (Toronto, ON) and William Benoit (Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC) sealed the three points for the Tommies.

Morrison is pleased with the strength in depth that his team possesses.

"We've got seven guys on the bench but we also have 10 that couldn't play today and we're confident that whoever we put on the field will help us get the results that we are looking for."

STU's next game will be in Saint John on Wednesday, Sept. 21 when they take on University of New Brunswick Saint John Seawolves. Crandall's next game will also be on Wednesday when they host the Dalhousie Agriculture Rams.
