Tommies End Regular Season With 3-2 Win Over Seawolves

Fredericton, NB – In what has become a common occurrence between these two rivals, the St. Thomas University Tommies and the UNB Saint John Seawolves needed five sets to determine a winner.

It was the Tommies prevailing this time around (25-16, 17-25, 25-16, 25-27, 15-8). They had split the previous two matchups in five sets.

Christian Christie (Langley, BC) was a force for the Tommies racking up 16 kills, 3 service aces and adding a solo block for a 20 point night to lead STU. Fredericton native Ty Poore poured in 18 points from 16 kills, a service ace and two block assists to keep the Seawolves in it.

"It's really important to finish the regular season with a win before heading to ACAA Championships," said head coach Henri Mallet. "We have had trouble closing out fifth sets over the past couple months, so it was nice to get a tough win against a real mature team."

With the ACAA's regular season ending with this match, the first-place Tommies will face the USA Dragons at the ACAA Championships, while the Seawolves will face the host Holland College Hurricanes. The championships will be in Charlottetown, PE from February 22nd-24th.
