Tommies Lock Down One of the Top Spin Servers in Ontario

Dallas Melnick
Niagara Falls, ON
6’1”
Prospective Program: Criminology

The Tommies have made yet another splash in the 2019-2020 recruiting class pool. Dallas Melnick, of Niagara Falls, ON, has committed to the St. Thomas University men’s volleyball team.

A Niagara Rapids volleyball club standout, Melnick was named team MVP in 2017 and was invited to participate in both the youth national team and team Ontario tryouts.

With a spin serve clocking in at 101km/h, Melnick is the owner of one of the strongest serves of his age class in Ontario - and often puts opposing teams in danger by applying relentless pressure from the serving line.

It’s a tool that head coach Henri Mallet can’t wait to use.

“Dallas has a very impressive spin serve and he will give us a big advantage from the back line – he’s also a crafty outside hitter and is well rounded defensively. He will be a big asset to our team,” said Mallet.

Melnick is enthusiastic about starting his post-secondary career in Fredericton, at the top of the hill.

“From the moment I first talked to Coach Mallet, I knew that it would be great choice to play for him. The university itself is also amazing, I have heard so many great things about it; the campus is beautiful, and the amount of student aid is amazing. I also heard great things about the criminology program which is what I got accepted for,” said Melnick.

“I want to become the best volleyball player I can be, and I think that coach Mallet can help me achieve that. In addition to this, I hope to help the program bring home a National title,” he added.

Melnick also suits up for the A.N Myer Secondary Marauders – a school that has produced Jay Triano, a former head coach of the Toronto Raptors, and Greg Newton, who played basketball for Duke University and Team Canada.

Melnick aided the squad to their 9th and 10th consecutive zone championships. The team is a perennial powerhouse in the Niagara Region and is always a threat in the SOSSA (Southern Ontario Secondary School Association).

Melnick becomes the fourth player to commit to the program this off-season, joining Noah Tulk (Oromocto, NB), Austin Atkinson (Truro, NS), Adam McDougall (Calgary, Alberta) in the recruiting class of 2019-2020.
