The St. Thomas University men’s volleyball team is pleased to announce that it has added another player from Western Canada to its roster. Adam McDougall, of Calgary, Alberta, has officially committed to the program for the 2019-2020 season.

A talented outside hitter, McDougall comes to the campus of St. Thomas University with an impressive resume. He has captained or co-captained most of his career with the Canuck Stuff Volleyball Club, and most recently, captained the Calgary Academy Knights to a CISAA banner. He has also won a provincial title in U14, a silver provincial medal in U15, and a bronze provincial medal in U16 - where he was named an Alberta provincial All-Star.

McDouglall is no stranger to the Atlantic Conference Athletic Association (ACAA), his older sister Rachel, suits up for the Mount Allison University Mounties and played an integral role in helping her little brother make his decision.

“Seeing my sister who plays volleyball at Mt. Allison University, have such a great time in the ACAA, made the decision to come to STU so much easier. She made it pretty clear that she wanted me to go to STU from the moment she knew I was thinking about coming to the East coast,” he said.

Head Coach Henri Mallet had his eyes on the Calgary product, for a long time.

“Coming from one of the best club programs in Alberta (Canuck Stuff), Adam will provide valuable experience and consistency to the program. He is very technically sound, and he will bring stability to the lineup, said Mallet.”

McDougall is happy to echo Mallet’s comments.

“I think I can bring great ball control skills on serve receive and defense, a hard-working defensive style, as well as an aggressive and scrappy offensive skillset to the team.”

To Mallet’s delight, McDougall committed after he was sold on a visit to Fredericton.

“The campus at St. Thomas was beautiful, and the education is top quality, but the coaching staff and players for the team were what really sold me. I took an immediate liking to the team and felt accepted from the beginning. The coaching staff was also very influential because of the genuine interest they showed in me as a player and person.”

The goal is for the program, is to contend nationally, and they will have a chance to showcase their talent as CCAA national championship hosts in 2020.

“This season, one of my goals is to improve and compete for a starting role on the team. In the future, a goal I have is to win the ACAA title and winning a national title with the Tommies would be an incredible experience.”

McDougall becomes the third recruit to commit to the Tommies joining Noah Tulk (Oromocto, NB) and Austin Atkinson (Truro, NS).
