Tommies Leapfrog Dragons for 1st Place in ACAA

The St. Thomas Tommies defended home court against the Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons on Saturday evening 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 31-29), marking the third time this season the Tommies have downed the Dragons.

Rookie outside hitter Dallas Melnick led the Tommies with a game high 13 kills in the victory, while Anthony Jacques continued his strong season with 12 kills.

"Dallas has the strongest arm in our league," said Tommies head coach Henri Mallet. "It's a team effort to get him those opportunities because guys like Christian [Christie], and the Adams [McDougall and Hamilton] have been playing so well."

The Tommies jumped out to an early two sets to zero lead and in the third set the Dragons weren't going to go away without a fight, clawing their way to a tie and holding the set serve to prolong the game before the Tommies finally finished it off.

"You have to give them credit, they played hard and never gave up," said Mallet. "They made their passes and blocks in the third and we had a hard time finishing the match."

With the win the Tommies sit at 4-1 in the ACAA while the Dragons fall to 4-3. St. Thomas will travel to Saint John, NB tomorrow to face the Seawolves in a rematch of the only game the Tommies have lost this season.
