Tommies Bolster Lineup With Second Semester Addition of Setter

Heading into the second half of the 2019-2020 season in first place, and with a record of 5-1, the St. Thomas University men’s volleyball is adding another piece to its core.

Ian Taylor, a 6’3 setter from Norris Point, Newfoundland has joined the Tommies.

After playing three seasons at Gros Morne Academy, a team that competes at the 2A level in Newfoundland and Labrador, Taylor made the decision to transfer to Corner Brook Regional High of the 4A division for his senior year.

He immediately helped lead the team to a 4A provincial championship, where he was named tournament MVP for his stellar performance.

Taylor will bring depth and size to the setter position.

“At 6’3 Ian brings a big body to the setter position. It’s never a bad thing when you bring in a setter of that size. He will help fill out our depth chart with Henry Doucet and Austin Atkinson,” says head coach Henri Mallet.

Taylor’s skillset will be utilized quickly by Coach Mallet, as the team continues to prepare to host the CCAA Nationals from March 10-13.

“I want to meet my potential and be the best player I can be. I’m a team player and always try to make the best of every play. I think I can bring different components to the team such as a strong block and a speed offence,” says Taylor.

The Tommies are back in action this Saturday, January 11th as they take on the Holland College Hurricanes at 2pm in Charlottetown. Tune into ACAATV.ca to catch all the action.
