Tommies Pick Up University of Saskatchewan Transfer Tratch for 2022-2023 Season

The St. Thomas University men’s volleyball team is pleased to announce the addition of 6’9 middle blocker Jacob Tratch to the program.

A product out of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Tratch is joining the Tommies after a one-year stint with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies. The Huskies finished the 2021-2022 season with a 9-9 record and fell just short of a final four finish in the Canada West Championships.

Head Coach Henri Mallet is thrilled to have landed his first ever transfer from the Canada West Conference.

“Jacob is a huge addition to the program as we head into an important season for us. After losing Garrett Dickson and Braden Cook, it was very important to establish the middle position as a priority this off-season. We nailed it by getting this commitment from Jacob, said Mallet.”

At 6’9, Tratch will be the tallest player to ever suit up for the Tommies. However, his height isn’t his only asset, as his strong gameplay has allowed him to gain numerous accolades over the course of his career.

From August 16th to August 21st, Tratch will join team Saskatchewan as they pursue a gold medal at the 2022 Canada Games in Niagara, Ontario. They look to claim their second gold of the summer, having just recently claimed first place at the 2022 Canada Cup in Calgary, Alberta.

Even with all his recent success, Tratch is most looking forward to his upcoming years at STU.

“I’m excited to be joining such an amazing volleyball program, with a strong history and great group of people. I hope to help in all ways possible to continue the success the program has had both on and off the court and work hard to push further and further into the playoffs and help bring a National Championship to STU.”

Tratch becomes the sixth recruit for the 2022-2023 season joining Raphael Fiset (Calgary, AB), Brenton Romanchuck (Dewberry, AB), Nathan Hara (Ajax, ON), Tobi Archibald (Aylesford, NS), and Mason Brewster (Bathurst, NB)
