Mounties Beat Tommies 56-53 in a Thriller

In what was one of the best games of the Ken Gould Tournament, the Mount Allison University Mounties defeated the St Thomas University Tommies 56-53.

Jill Harris led the way for the Mounties with 17 points, while Alana Dowling Quispamsis, NB) was a spark for the Tommies with 15 points off the bench.

The Tommies jumped out to a 15-7 lead after the first quarter, thanks in part to a hot start from Lainy Dow (Fredericton, NB).

Not to be outdone, the Mounties bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring the Tommies 17-6 to make it a close game at half time.

Both teams battled defensively throughout the entire game.

The Tommies entered the final quarter down 10 points but battled against a strong Mounties team to get within 3 points, but that's as close as they would get.

Player of the Game for the Mounties was Karley Buckingham, and Dowling for the Tommies.

Buckingham was also named a tournament all-star with teammate Kiersten Mangold. First year guard Vanessa Soffee (Fredericton, NB) was named to the all-star team for the Tommies.

The Tommies kick off their regular season on Saturday, October 27th in PEI when they face the Holland College Hurricanes.
