The St. Thomas University Tommies women’s basketball team is pleased to announce that Abby Draper (Ottawa, ON) has committed to play in the 2019-20 season.
Upon her graduation from Sir Robert Borden High School in Ottawa, she will join the Green and Gold in pursuit of the team’s first ACAA banner since 2013-14.
“We are ecstatic that Abby is coming to join our program,” said head coach Fred Connors of his first recruit for the 2019-20 season. “We knew she was going to be a great fit for our program from the first point of contact. She is a mature young lady who has a passion for basketball and loves to be a team player. She has a tremendous work ethic in all aspects of her life and is very community minded. When we had a chance to meet her and her family we were sold 100%. On the court, she is an aggressive athletic defender who plays unselfish basketball. She moves and cuts well off the ball and has a nose for how to play the game. We just cannot wait to work with her next season.”
Draper will be joining fellow Ottawa natives Christina Richardson, who will be entering her 4th year when Draper get’s to Fredericton, and Geoffrey Lavoie, Almin Dervisevic and Micheal Otoo, should he come back for his 5th year, of the men’s team.
Not only will she bring skill to the basketball court, Draper is a gifted student as well. She has been on the honour roll every year of high school so far.
“St. Thomas University was the perfect school for me because of their beautiful campus, the professor-student ratio, and their specialization in the liberal arts,” said Draper about her decision to attend STU. “I chose STU basketball because the coach invested a great deal of time to ensure STU met my needs, both as a player and a student. I felt very welcomed at the school, and on the team, before, during, and after my campus visit. I am thrilled to make St. Thomas my new home.”
