Prior to the new year, the Tommies have procured the talents of Samantha Stordy for the 2019-20 season.

The Moncton, NB native, who has represented New Brunswick for three years with Basketball New Brunswick, will join the Tommies following her graduation from Bernice MacNaughton High School.

Stordy plans on studying Human Rights at STU, with hopes of further pursuing Law School.

“A few years ago when I played for team NB I had the chance to play in Fredericton for most of the summer, which gave me the chance to really get to know STU’s campus,” said Stordy. “The other day when I went to tour the campus entirely it felt like home to me. After discussing the options of being able to study law and business at the same time, it really made me feel like I want to be here. On top of that, the campus is small but not too small and everyone just seemed so nice. That’s when I knew this was the school for me.”

“We are very happy to have Sam joining our program,” said head coach Fred Connors. “Having coached her in the provincial basketball program, I got to know her and her family. They are outstanding people. Sam is a team first person in every way. She is very athletic and physical. She can defend multiple positions, and at 5-10 has a versatile offensive game that will translate to our style of play. Most importantly, she is going to put the work in to become a better basketball player. We are really looking forward to working with Sam and watching her grow in our program.”

Stordy is looking forward to joining coach Connors and his program to help build off of the success they are having this season come the fall.

“Having played for coach Connors in the past really helped me make my decision to commit to STU. I really admire his coaching ability and the way he structures his team, on and off the court. After meeting with some current players who were very helpful and kind, I knew I wanted to be in that type of environment. STU is doing very well this year and I can’t wait to be a part of such a competitive and successful atmosphere.”
