Tommies Topple Blue Devils 69-47

Fredericton, NB- The St. Thomas University women's basketball team took possession in their game on Sunday with a 69-47 victory over the University of Kings College Blue Devils. Although the win does not affect the standings, the team increases to a seven-game winning streak.

The Blue Devils attempted a comeback in the 2nd quarter but the Tommies wouldn't let them break. Head Coach Fred Connors said that he kept reminding his players to stay calm and concentrate on the game, his team "played very well defensively". The Tommies brought it in the 3rd quarter, scoring 23 pts to a respective 9 from the Blue Devils. They lead by 27 pts with 50 seconds left in the quarter.

Bridget Frazee (Sussex, NB) and Christina Richardson (Smith Falls, ON) carried the scoring for the Tommies in today's game.

Connors says, there are good signs of leadership on the court, "our leadership is feeling good and positive therefore when you get into a little flunk, they are ready to step up." He concluded, "Both Bridget and Christina just calmed down and when they came out in the second half they were composed". The two went on to score over 10 points each in the 2nd half.

Frazee, 4th year player for the Tommies and last years ACAA All Canadian, had a slow start to the game. Connors says, "when [Frazee] gets into a flunk she can have a hard time braking out of it." Frazee agreed, "I didn't have energy on the defensive end". She continued, "At half time coach told us to clam down and relax, we did, and we were able to pull ahead." Connors stated, that "she blasted out of it in the 2nd half" and finished the game 4-6 from the 3 pt range, totalling 15 points, 3 steals.

4th year player for the Tommies, Richardson started the game ready to play. The 5'11 post finished the game with 5 rebounds and 17 pts. She shot 100% from the line and 3 pt range. "Christina just keeps getting better and better all the time" Connors says. Richardson, in reference to Blue Devil's Claire Hickman (St. John's NF), says, "knowing I'm going against a really good post in this league pushed me to be more aggressive'.

Top scorer for the Blue Devils was Hickman with 13 pts and 13 rebounds, after her was Jenna Bain (Bedford, NS) with 9 pts and 9 rebounds. The Blue Devils are currently 3rd in the league take on the Holland College Hurricanes Feb 22nd.
