Soffee Posts Double-Double in Victory

Fredericton, NB – Ava Prosser (Johnstown, ON) and Vanessa Soffee (Fredericton, NB) combined for 39 points to help the St. Thomas University Tommies to a 83-68 victory over the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics on Sunday afternoon. Soffee posted a double-double with 19 points, 10 rebounds, along with three assists and four steals. Prosser has 20 points.

STU coach Fred Connors was happy was happy with the way in which Prosser played the game today.

"These types of games don't rattle her," Connors said. "I thought she played really under control for most of the game and that's what we need, that calm and steadying influence out there."

The Mystics only had two players in double-figures for the game but one was a 36-point clinic from Emily Holt (Halifax, NS) who made 13 of her 22 shots.

The game was marred by an unfortunate injury to the Tommies, for which the game was stopped and an early halftime break was taken.

The Tommies stuck to their defensive plan and in the second half the game and Prosser was joined by Soffee and Emily Owens (Fredericton, NB). Owens scored all of her 12 points in the second half.

"I felt like our half-court defence was excellent but we wanted to make sure that Holt didn't get going and once she did we didn't guard her the way we wanted to," Connors said after the match when asked about his team's defending in the match.

The Tommies will make a trip to Moncton for their game on Sunday against Crandall, the first of three, consecutive games that they will play away from home. The Mystics next match will be on Saturday when they host the Mount Allison University Mounties.
