Fredericton, NB- On Friday October 4th St. Thomas University took on the University of New Brunswick in their Battle of the Hill game.  

It was a well fought game from both teams, however, the Tommies fell short to the Reds with a score of 45 -38.  

The Tommies started out the first half strong. Within the first five minutes of play, centre Becca Baker (Keswick Ridge, NB) put the Tommies on the board. The Tommies kept their lead throughout the first half getting three more tries, with Emily Donelle (Moncton, NB) converting on two of those. The first half ended with a score of 26 –12 for the Tommies.  

The second half didn't go as well as the first for the Tommies, with the Reds applying pressure in the second half. The Tommies managed to stay ahead of the Reds for the majority of the second half. Tries came from Kristen Bulman (Moncton, NB) and Kyra Gate (Truro, NS) who both had two, and Olivia Rickets (Saint John, NB) who had one. Donelle received points from two more conversions in the second half. In the last ten minutes of play the Reds managed to catch up to the Tommies, tying it at 38-38. Within the dying minutes of the second half, the Reds pulled of a try and made the conversion. Which resulted in the Reds taking home the win.  

"The team played a strong first half. Becca Baker and Myriam Noel kept the offense moving forward by grabbing every opportunity to get through their defense," head coach Mary Kim Schriver said. "Our own defense started to break down in the second half, so we will look to tighten up for the next game."  

The Tommies record now sits at 2-2. The Tommies next game will be on Thursday October 10th. They'll be facing off against the UKC Blue Devils at 7:00 pm at the Wickwire Field in Halifax.
