Castors Duo joining Tommies Women's Rugby

Tommies Head Coach Becca Baker didn't have to look far to get her newest additions for the 2022 ACAA Season.

MayaVeye Walker-Titus and Macey Steeves from nearby École Sainte-Anne in Fredericton have committed to the STU Women's Rugby program.

Both began their rugby careers in Grade 9 and have become a driving force in the Castors' success on the field.

Walker-Titus is exhuberant about continuing to her studies at home at St. Thomas like many of her family members.

“I chose STU because of the small class sizes, I thought they would help me adjust considering I went to a small high school," lauds Walker-Titus.  "I also chose STU because I really like Fredericton and wanted to stay here, and STU offers a high-quality education in the arts”

Coach Becca Baker is looking forward to Maya's contribution on the field as well while she pursues majors in English and History.

“Maya is strong and confident in her tackles. She is an impactful forward who is not afraid to attack the gain line," boasts the bench boss entering his first year at the helm after a storied playing career.  "Maya is fast to the breakdown, often being the first player to ruck. We are confident that she will add tactical skill and strength to our forwards this season.”

Maya can't wait to be part of the ACAA program. “I think I will bring a dedicated spirit and be fully engaged and invested in our team's well-being. Equally, I will always lend a helping hand and respect all the members of the team”

Macey Steeves will be the first to attend St. Thomas in her family as she wants the personal experience of the Liberal Arts in her hometown. "STU has smaller classrooms which will allow more one-on-one communication with my professors to help me achieve my goals. Thus, family is very important to me, and I want to stay close to my siblings and parents”.

Steeves will be studying Psychology and look to apply to the prestigious Education program at STU. On the field, Coach Baker is looking for an impact from the get-go from Macey at Training camp.

“Macey is a speedy back-fielder whose presence will be noticeable next season. Her positive attitude and team-first mentality will add to the culture of next year’s squad," adds Coach Baker. "We are excited for her to bring her competitive nature and determination to push the ball over the try-line.”

Walker-Titus and Steeves will make 8 new additions for the Women's Rugby team after commitments from Alexis Falconer, Vada Benoit, Atheana Harris, Becca Macmullin, Valerie Boorne and Kelsey Mannett.
